THE NEW GATE

THE NEW GATE was a new VRMMORPG that was made available all across the globe. However, one day it turned into a death game trapping everyone inside, with no way to log out. Shin managed to beat the final boss and everyone logged out safely. But just before he was about to log out himself a door opened behind him. After walking through it Shin finds himself five hundred years into the future after everyone has left. With a Little Searching he learns that the NPC's in the game have all gained a sense of self and retain their memories from their time in the game. Will Shin be able to live the kind of life he did during the game, or will the five hundred years worth of changes cause him to rethink that?

I never thought that I would say this about an anime, but THE NEW GATE was mid. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. It might sound like a Sword Art Online copy cat, but it reminds me more of In the Land of Leadale. You don't see anything of the death game except for the first 4 minutes of episode 1. There are some things that I had an issue with like how Shin complains that he can't use his full power. He obviously has the option to but at the same time wants to avoid the attention it will bring him. He also has a familiar which is a fox. She has the option to turn into a human but shin tells her not to. I honestly wish she took her human form more often than she does. This obviously is not relevant to the story and is just my opinion. There also was nothing that made me want to rewatch it, but it wasn't a pain to get through each episode like it was in Unnamed Memory. The season stayed mostly clean except for the second princess who always has her cleavage showing. There is a part where her clothes get ripped after fighting a monster and a large majority of her body is revealed. The language is clean as well. Overall, I think it is worth giving a try if you like anime with a focus on adventuring. I feel like you will know near the beginning if you are going to like it or not.
