Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin

Sakuna is the daughter of the war god Takeribi and the harvest goddess Toyohana. However, she never met them and all she was left with was rice her mother had grown, her divine raiment, and half of her father's blade which took the form of a dog after breaking. She offered her mothers rice once a year to live in the capital of the lofty realm where the gods reside. There she spent her time drinking, sleeping, and playing rather than accomplishing anything. One day a group of humans from the lowly realm wander into the lofty realm. Sakuna tells them to turn back, and then leaves. She later figures out that they didn't heed her words and now the bridge of heaven which connects the two realms has disappeared trapping them in the lofty realm. After a series of mistakes in her attempts to hide the humans, Sakuna ends up blowing up the warehouse where her mothers rice was stored. the head god of the lofty realm Kamihitsuki sends Sakuna along with humans to Hinoe island as punishment. Kamihitsuki tells Sakuna that Hinoe Island is full of demons and their numbers continue to grow. Her new job is to find out why that's happening and to take care of it.

I wasn't expecting much when I started Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, but I was pleasantly surprised by the anime. While there are other anime that revolve around farming such as Farming Life in Another World and I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-related Skills, Of Rice and Ruin felt like a more authentic experience. The anime revolves around rice farming and every episode you learn different aspects of the work that goes into making rice. It also has a good fantasy storyline which keeps the anime interesting. If you like slow life type fantasy anime I would definitely suggest giving this one a try.
